I have recently returned from a weekend trip to Paris and was inspired by some of the design elements, both interior and exterior that Parisians use to decorate their homes. If you’ve always admired the elegance and simplicity of French décor, read on for nine ways to add some Parisian flair to your living space:

  1. Greenery: Lots of green leafy plants, both indoors and outdoors or on a balcony, can add a touch of nature and freshness to your space. Think tall trees, ivy, and plants in decorative pots. Particularly on apartments without gardens, adding green and leafy plants is a great way to bring the great outdoors to you. Added bonus – houseplants are proven to improve our health and wellbeing.
  2. French Doors: If you want to let in more natural light and add a touch of French elegance, consider replacing your standard doors with French doors. These doors are made of glass panes and usually have ornate moldings. If this isn’t an option, you could always repaint your front door in Parisian colours.
  3. Colour Palette: French interior design is all about muted colours, such as pastels, beige, grey, and white. Consider painting your walls with these colours, or adding furniture and decor in these hues. Parisian apartment interior design is full of muted colours.
  4. Vintage Furniture: Look for vintage furniture pieces that have character and patina. Think antique chandeliers, vintage rugs, and distressed wood tables.
  5. Architectural Design: French architecture is characterized by the use of ornate moldings, curved lines, and arches. You can bring these elements into your home by adding crown moldings, arches, or even a fireplace mantel.
  6. Artwork: French art is celebrated all over the world. You can add some Parisian chic to your home by incorporating some famous French artwork into your decor. Consider hanging a framed print of a famous painting or photograph. Don’t have any picture frames? Make your own!
  7. Lighting: French interiors are often lit with soft, warm light. Consider installing dimmer switches on your lighting to create a cozy ambiance.
  8. Linens: French bed linens are known for their quality and elegance. You can bring some of that luxury to your bedroom by investing in high-quality linens.
  9. Statement Pieces: Add a statement piece to your room, such as a unique chandelier or a striking piece of artwork. These pieces can serve as the focal point of the room and add a touch of Parisian glamour.

By incorporating some of these design elements into your home, you can create a chic and elegant Parisian-inspired living space that will transport you to Paris, whether you’ve been there yourself or not.
