Review: Dewalt Impact Driver 18V Li-ion Brushless & Cordless

In December 2023 we moved into our first real ‘fixer upper’ in the North East of England and at the start I had no idea which power tools were best. Following some research, I’ve been using the Dewalt 18V Li-ion Brushless Cordless Impact Driver for various household tasks, and I must say, it’s been a game-changer. Whether I’m fixing floorboards, assembling flat-pack furniture, or hanging curtain rails and blinds, this impact driver delivers outstanding performance.

One of the standout features of this tool is its lightweight and ergonomic design, making it easy to handle and maneuver around tight spaces. This unit is a ‘bare’ unit, which means it comes without a battery. Personally I’ve been using two 5.0aH batteries on rotation with my other Dewalt tools and I’ve found that it provides long-lasting power that lasts through extended use without needing frequent recharges. This does come with a trade off – the larger the battery the heavier it makes the power tool – however I think this is a small price to pay to not have to recharge batteries often!

As part of the Dewalt 18V XR range, this impact driver is compatible with other Dewalt 18V XR tools, meaning I can interchange batteries between different tools, offering convenience and flexibility. This cross-compatibility has simplified my toolkit, allowing me to consolidate batteries and chargers for maximum efficiency.

The brushless motor ensures efficient power delivery and extended tool life, while the variable speed trigger allows for precise control over the driving process. I’ve found that it delivers ample torque to drive screws effortlessly, even into tougher materials like hardwood.

Overall, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the Dewalt 18V Li-ion Brushless Cordless Impact Driver. It’s become an indispensable tool in my arsenal, making quick work of various tasks around the house with its reliable performance and long-lasting battery life.
